Open-Back vs Closed-Back Seats
Open Back:

Fitment & Truck Compatibility
Your seat kit is custom-built to match the factory bench frame for the year and make you select above.
Correct fitment depends entirely on choosing the accurate Year/Make before adding to cart.
B62 seat kits are patterned directly from original stock benches, including:
- overall length + height
- bolster profiles
- insert dimensions
- corner radiuses
- foam transitions
- stitch map alignment
If your truck has a modified or swapped bench, or if you're unsure which generation you have, please reach out — we can confirm compatibility before you order.
Designed for classic truck bench seats including Chevy C10, GM Squarebody, Ford F-Series, OBS Chevy, Dodge, and International models. Each kit is patterned, cut, and sewn in our Michigan Autelier studio for an accurate, made-to-order fit.

Tools Needed for Installation
Here’s what we typically use in the studio when installing a B62 seat kit:
To remove the old upholstery:
- Hog ring pliers
- Hog rings
- Side cutters or vice grips (to remove old hog rings)
- Razor blade or scissors
To remove the bench from the truck:
- Socket set (to unbolt the seat frame from the cab)
- Screwdriver (for any trim panels around the frame)
To install the new cover:
- Hog ring pliers + hog rings
- Awl (helpful for finding attachment holes in the frame)
- Steam source (a garment steamer works great for tightening the final fit)
- Basic hand tools as needed while positioning seams and tensioning material
If your foam is worn or collapsed, we also offer foam kits patterned for your bench seat for the best possible fit and support.
And for customers in Mid-Michigan, you’re welcome to bring your bench into the studio — we offer local installation here at the Autelier.
Installation Notes
Installing a B62 seat kit is a hands-on but very approachable project. Here are the notes we share from the studio to help you get the cleanest, most professional result:
Positioning & Tensioning the Cover
Once your old cover is removed and your foam is ready:
- Set the new cover in place and align your seams with the frame lines.
- Work from the center outward, pulling evenly so the inserts sit square and the bolsters tighten naturally.
- It’s normal for the cover to feel snug — automotive materials are designed to stretch into place.
A steam source (like a garment steamer) helps soften the vinyl or cloth and pulls everything beautifully taut for the final fit.
Cutting Bolt Holes Through the Boxing
One of the most common installation questions is how to get your mounting bolts back through the new cover.
Here’s exactly how we do it in the atelier:
- Fully tension the cover before cutting anything.
- Mark the bolt locations with a fingernail or chalk.
- Use a razor blade to make the smallest “X” you can — just enough for the bolt to pass.
- Push the bolt through the X-cut; the material will snug tightly around it once tightened.
Avoid cutting circles or large openings. The small X-cut gives the cleanest, most invisible finish.
Seat Belt Pass-Throughs (70s–80s GM & Ford Trucks)
Some 1970s–1980s trucks originally had seat belt slots that ran up through the foam.
We do not pre-cut seat belt openings for these later benches, as every truck varies slightly.
If you want to run your belts through the original channels:
- Install and tension the cover first.
- Locate the factory belt channel by feel or by referencing your old cover.
- Make a small X-cut (same method as bolt holes).
- Feed the belt hardware through the channel.
If you're not using the factory belt pass-throughs, no modification is required.
Foam Considerations
- We offer flat-style foam kits for GM & Ford benches through 1966, and for many Dodge benches up through 1992.
- Later-model GM and Ford seats (1967+) use molded foam, which is not produced at the atelier and must be reused or sourced elsewhere.
If your existing foam is sagging, broken down, or torn, replacing it before installing your new cover will dramatically improve the final result.
Local Installation (Mid-Michigan)
If you're local to Mid-Michigan and would prefer to have your kit installed professionally, you’re welcome to bring your bench into the atelier. We offer in-house installation for the year ranges we pattern.
If you have questions during your install, feel free to message us — we’re here to help make the process smooth and successful.
